Xiaomi on Tuesday launched its latest electric vehicle (EV) for the Chinese market, called the Mi YU7. It is expected to join the Chinese company’s growing fleet of electric vehicles – a venture that began in March with the launch of the Mi SU7, a four-door electric sedan focused on balancing luxury and performance. Although specific details have not been revealed, the Xiaomi YU7 is expected to be its SUV offering, aiming to compete with the likes of the Tesla Model X and BYD Hiace 07 in China’s highly competitive electric vehicle market.
Xiaomi YU7 launch conference
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun shared images of the upcoming Xiaomi YU7 EV on X (formerly Twitter). According to officials, it will launch in “June or July” next year. The company claims it has made an early appearance, which will allow it to begin long-term and large-scale testing without heavy disguise.
The Xiaomi YU7 borrows a lot of design cues from the company’s existing SU7 sedan, including a very similar front fascia that also appears to be similar to the Porsche Taycan EV. At the same time, its overall cabin shape is similar to that of Italian automaker Ferrari Purosangue’s high-performance four-door SUV.
Design elements include a sloping roofline, LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRL), connected LED taillights and recessed door handles. The teaser image also hints at the inclusion of front and rear disc brakes.
According to media reports, the Xiaomi YU7 EV was mentioned in the latest batch of vehicle reports about to be approved for sale on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, and its core specifications were revealed. Its dimensions are reported to be 4,999 x 1,996 x 1,600 mm, with a curb weight of 2405 kg and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
It is reported that Xiaomi YU7 will be equipped with dual motors on the front axle, with maximum power of 220kW and 280kW respectively. The electric car is also said to be equipped with a battery pack from CATL, but its capacity is still unknown.
