Microsoft has announced Forza Horizon 6, the next entry in the long-running open-world arcade racing series. As previous leaks have suggested, the next Forza game is heading to Japan. The game will be released first on Xbox Series S/X and PC in 2026. Developer Playground Games confirmed that it will bring the racing game to PS5 after launch, but did not reveal a specific timeline.
Forza Horizon 6 was announced on September 25 at Microsoft’s Tokyo Game Show, following a series of leaks that suggested a new Forza game set in Japan was in development. Xbox revealed the final announcement for the game during a livestream. Following the announcement, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said on X: “There’s no better place to announce the next Forza Horizon than TGS.”
The minute-long Forza Horizon 6 trailer begins with license plates from different countries from previous Forza Horizon games, ending with a Japanese license plate and panning to the iconic Mount Fuji.
Forza Horizon 6 launches in Japan
“In Forza Horizon 6, you’ll explore the scenic and stunning Japan, where you’ll establish your racing status and become a legend at the Horizon Festival,” Playground Games said on the Forza website.
“As you know, Japan has always been one of the most iconic and popular locations for the Forza Horizon community. We’re super excited for you to experience it, and we can’t wait to share more details about Forza Horizon 6 early next year.”
In addition to Mount Fuji, Playground has confirmed that Tokyo will also be a location in Forza Horizon 6.
“While we’re not revealing too many details right now, we’re excited to show fans the true beauty Japan has to offer – both natural and urban environments,” the game’s art director Don Arceta said in an Xbox Wire post following the reveal. “From the neon lights and towering architecture of the city of Tokyo (one of our most detailed and layered environments yet) to the tranquility and natural beauty of Japan’s countryside and mountains, we think players will be blown away by the Japanese open world we’ve built,” he added.
Arceta said the game will feature a large number of cars and explore Japanese car culture. Forza Horizon 6 will also bring seasonal changes, a staple of the series since Forza Horizon 4, with spring, summer, fall and winter changing the entire landscape. Playground says seasonal changes will affect more than just the visuals of the game.
Turn 10 Studios, developer of the Forza series, is assisting Playground in developing Forza Horizon 6. Of course, the racing game will be available on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass when it launches next year. While a PS5 port has been confirmed, it’s unclear whether the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
Forza Horizon 6 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it can be wishlisted on the Microsoft Store and Steam. Microsoft will reveal more details in early 2026 and may reveal FH 6’s gameplay.
