WWE will host the 2026 Royal Rumble this weekend, kicking off the road to WrestleMania 42. The annual event, held for the first time in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will feature two Superstars (one male and one female) crowned champions at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas this April.
This year is the 33rd edition of the men’s nominal competition and the 9th edition of the women’s nominal competition. Both games operate the same way, with two superstars starting each game and an additional 28 superstars competing at intervals. There is no limit to how many combatants can be in the ring at any given time, you are only eliminated when you are thrown over the top rope and your feet touch the floor outside the ring.

While Saturday will be the first time the Royal Rumble takes place in Saudi Arabia, WWE has held similar showcases there in the past. In 2018, WWE held the Greatest Royal Rumble show in Jeddah, which included a 50-man exhibition match won by Braun Strowman.
The Royal Rumble is considered one of WWE’s “big four” premium live events and is a fan favorite due to the unpredictability of the matches. While some participants will “announce” their participation in advance, surprise appearances by legends and newcomers are the lifeblood of the Royal Rumble. The biggest moments in Royal Rumble history in recent years include Edge’s return in 2020, AJ Styles’ WWE debut in 2016, and the return of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss last year.
