US President Donald Trump said the United States had launched a “massive strike” against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro.
In an article published in Truth Social, Trump claimed that Maduro and his wife were “captured and flown out of the country” after the operation, which he said was “conducted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement.”
The United States has carried out Strikes in Venezuela Earlier on Saturday, a situation that Venezuelans had feared for weeks escalated sharply.
U.S. media outlets including Fox News and CBS News earlier reported a U.S. attack on the South American country.
In his initial statement, Maduro accused the United States of “extremely serious military aggression.”
“Venezuela rejects, denies and condemns before the international community the extremely serious military aggression committed by the current United States government against the territory and people of Venezuela,” the Maduro government said.
Other countries also responded to the attack.
Colombia
“Reminding the world that they attacked Venezuela,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro wrote on social media platform X.
“The Republic of Colombia reaffirms its belief that peace, respect for international law and the protection of life and human dignity must prevail over any form of armed confrontation,” Petro added.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez issued a sharp condemnation on social media, accusing Washington of a “criminal attack” on Venezuela and calling for an urgent international response.
Posting on X, Díaz-Canel said Cuba’s so-called “peace zones” were being “brutally attacked” and described the U.S. actions as “state terrorism” not just against the Venezuelan people but “our America” more broadly.
He ended his statement with the revolutionary slogan: “Whether it’s the fatherland or death, we will overcome.”
Cuban embassies around the world issued a statement saying Havana “condemns the U.S. military attack on Venezuela.”
The statement also “demanded an urgent response from the international community” and described the attack as “state terrorism.”
Iran
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it “strongly condemns the U.S. military attack on Venezuela and its blatant violation of the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Russia
The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow was deeply concerned about and condemned the “acts of armed aggression” carried out by the United States against Venezuela. “In the current situation, it is important… to prevent further escalation and to focus on finding a way out of the situation through dialogue,” the ministry said in a statement.
“Venezuela’s right to determine its own destiny must be guaranteed, without any destructive military intervention from the outside,” the ministry said.
“We reaffirm our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and our support for its leadership’s policies to defend the country’s interests and sovereignty,” it added.
Spain
Madrid calls for de-escalation, moderation and respect for international law in Venezuela, the Spanish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. It also offered itself as a negotiator to help find a peaceful solution in Venezuela.
