The 2026 World Baseball Classic has begun, with several pool games already on the slate, including Japan’s historic second-inning mercy win over Chinese Taipei. With Shohei Ohtani hitting a grand slam to take Japan to 10 points, the reigning WBC champion officially issued a warning to all challengers.

On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about the opener, including Yoshinobu Yamamoto picking up where he left off last October, and Australia’s 2-0 start in Group C. They then previewed all the other games coming up this weekend, including Team USA’s quest for gold starting tonight, and picking who will win the entire tournament.

Jake and Jordan then talked about the Texas Rangers signing veteran Andrew McCutchen to MiLB, after Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña missed several weeks with a broken finger. Then they make their selections for this week’s edition Good, bad and Ugra, These include the crappy WBC uniforms and the unbelievable scenes of the Dominican Republic team playing in an exhibition match in the Dominican Republic.
