Late in the first period, Boston College’s Greta Henderson redirected Maeve Kelly’s shot past Taffy for a power-play goal. The Terriers led 13-6 in shots on goal at the end of the first quarter, but Taffy and the Red-Red defense held off the Boston American offense.
Although the second period was filled with power-play chances, neither team was able to break the tie. Boston College continued to shoot at Taffy, but she became a brick wall, sending the game into overtime.
In overtime, a save by Taffy gave McSweeney a breakaway opportunity, but she was knocked down as she flew toward the crease. McSweeney then turned into “McClatchy,” firing a wrist shot past Terriers goalie Mari Peterson.
