SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean court said Monday a woman has been sentenced to four years in prison for blackmailing soccer star Son Heung-min.

The woman, identified only as Yang, is accused of extorting 300 million won ($204,000) from Son in 2024 after she sent her son an ultrasound photo of what she claimed was his baby and demanded money to keep him quiet.

She later conspired with a man named Yong to try to extort more money from Son.

The Seoul Central District Court said on Monday that Yang “lied” to Son, although she did not confirm whose child she was carrying.

The court said Young denies charges of extortion and attempted extortion. According to the court, Yang Yong confessed and was sentenced to two years in prison.

The 33-year-old Son Heung-min is one of the greatest players in Asia. The South Korean star joined Los Angeles FC in August after ten years with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported in May that a woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s were detained on suspicion of trying to blackmail Son last June when he was still at Tottenham Hotspur.
