Wilkinson scores 19 points as Georgia rallies to beat Texas 91-80

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Jeremiah Wilkinson scored 19 points off the bench and Georgia used a late run to beat Texas 91-80 on Saturday, ending a three-game losing streak at home.

The Bulldogs (19-8, 7-7 SEC) shot 60 percent overall and 11 of 20 from 3-point range to lead 45-35 at halftime. Marcus Millender had 15 points and five assists, Somtochukwu Cyril and Kanon Catchings each had 13 points, and Blue Cain had 12 points and five assists.

Texas (17-10, 8-6) matched the second half performance of Matas Vokietaitis, who scored 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, and Dailyn Swain, who also scored 21 points. Jordan Pope scored 17 points for the Longhorns, shooting 57 percent from the field and 6 of 12 from 3-point range.

With 7 minutes and 37 seconds left in the game, Pope hit a step-back three-pointer and Texas tied the score at 67.

Justin Abson’s dunk started Georgia’s offense, and Cain’s 3-pointer capped a 10-2 run that extended the lead to 77-69 with 5:26 left. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 87-75 on Catchings’ 3-pointer with 2:04 left and never allowed Texas to get within eight points the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs and Longhorns split their season series after Texas defeated Georgia 87-67 on Jan. 24.
