Cornerback Riley Moss is in rare fashion at the top of the league this season, which is a key reason why he’s mentioned alongside Broncos greats.

Moss recorded 19 passes defended, the most in a regular season game for Denver since Champ Bailey in 2006 and tied Carolina’s Mike Jackson for the NFL lead.

Moss also ranks third on the Broncos in tackles with 80, another sign of his growing role on the defense.

A lot of people are against Riley Moss

The third-year cornerback from Iowa State has made his presence felt, though his aggressive style has also resulted in 10 penalties, tied for fourth in the league. Some of these calls have drawn criticism.

After Moss was flagged for pass interference in Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers, CBS analyst Tony Romo questioned the call on air. Moss then intercepted Jordan Love’s pass and spoke later.

“This is awesome, long overdue, you know, the ball doesn’t lie, right?” Moss said of the interception after the game. “I had good coverage on that deep ball and they wanted to throw the flag from the other side of the field. So it’s good that they can do that and the ball doesn’t lie.”

Moss is a long way from matching Bailey, a 12-time Pro Bowl cornerback and Hall of Famer, on his resume, but Denver is comfortable with Moss matching up with Pat Surtain II.
