The social media platform is reportedly working on a solution to streamline the process, but until then, users will have to adopt some workarounds. Currently, WhatsApp allows users to retain their account information, including profile photo, name, introduction, personal chats, group chats, and settings when switching to a different operating system (such as from iPhone to Android). However, it does not allow moving chat history. However, chat history is very important to most users, especially those who use it for business conversations.

WhatsApp users can use the methods mentioned below to backup and transfer chats if you switch from iPhone to Android.

How to transfer WhatsApp chat backup from iPhone to Android

When switching from iPhone to Android, there is no native option within the app for transferring chat history. This is mainly because WhatsApp for iOS stores backups of iPhone users on iCloud, while WhatsApp for Android stores backups on Google Drive. However, users can export the entire chat history via Mail and then restore it to a new device. Each chat needs to be exported individually, so it’s a tedious process. But it does guarantee that the chat will be restored. It is recommended that you select important chats and then export those chats and keep the less important chats. Here are the steps to transfer WhatsApp chat history from iPhone to Android.

  1. Open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone and swipe left In the chat you want to export.

  2. Click more in the menu that appears. choose Export chat history options.

  3. from share menu, select mail options. The mailbox will appear with the chat file attached.

  4. Enter an email address that you have access to on your Android phone. tap send.

  5. Turn on your Android phone and open the email. Download the chat file attached to the email. This process needs to be completed for every chat that needs to be transferred from iPhone to Android. You’ll most likely end up receiving several emails, depending on how many chats you exported.

  6. If you have installed WhatsApp on your Android phone, delete it and reinstall it. Complete the setup process and when the recovery options appear, select the “Restore” option to complete the setup. Click Next.

  7. All exported chats should appear on your Android phone.
