There’s an update on Marshon Lattimore’s story, and it’s not good news.
Washington Commanders cornerback Lattimore has struggled this season and suffered a torn ACL in Week 9 against the Seahawks. There is no doubt that he will not return to the Commanders next season. It was already believed that Lattimore would be released this offseason.

Then, on the evening of Wednesday, January 7, Lattimore was pulled over by police in Lakewood, Ohio, about 15 minutes’ drive from Cleveland. TMZ released video of the traffic jam on Monday. The officer explained to Lattimore (who was in the passenger seat) and the female driver that the license plate had expired, meaning the vehicle was not properly registered in Ohio.
The officer then asked Lattimore if he had ever been cited for having too dark window tint and told him, “Yeah, it was dark, man, really dark. The legal limit is at least 47 percent.” Next, the officer asked why they parked in a handicapped spot. Lattimore responded, “She was just running in and out of the store.” The officer responded, “You can’t park there, that’s a $250 admission.” “
When asked to insure the car, both men did so without complaint. The police officer asked: “Are there any weapons in the car?” “No, there are no weapons,” Lattimore replied. “Aren’t there any guns or knives or anything like that?” the officer asked.

Next, the officer explained the ticket for three violations: expired license plate, excessive window tint, and failure to park properly on the sidewalk. The officer wearing the body camera then conducted an inventory/search of the car and found a gun (Glock 45) in the glove compartment.
The arresting officer then informed Lattimore, “You are under arrest for possession of that weapon.” Lattimore responded, “What weapon?” “The one in the glove box,” the officer responded. Lattimore was not heard to respond further to the video. He may have remained silent then.
Lattimore, who turns 30 in May, was known for his press coverage during his early years in the NFL. In particular, there was an epic battle between Lattimore and Mike Evans, and the Saints and Buccaneers played some very tight games as NFC South rivals. Lattimore will continue to be a salary cap victim as many teams, including the Commanders, will cut payroll to create more room to sign other free agents. Releasing Lattimore will save the Commanders approximately $18 million in 2026.
