The New York Giants have made some changes within their front office, and while Joe Schoen remains the team’s general manager, his future with the team doesn’t look bright.
Schon told the media immediately after Harbaugh’s introductory press conference that he and incoming head coach John Harbaugh would “work together” and that it was “the only way to go.” But now, the Giants have hired Dawn Aponte as senior vice president of football operations and strategy, and she’s taking on much of the responsibility you’d expect from Schoen.
“Harbaugh was heavily involved in the hiring of NFL chief executive Dawn Aponte as the Giants’ senior vice president of football operations and strategy. She will oversee analytics, salary cap management and player contract negotiations. In another sign of Harbaugh’s outsized influence within the organization, Aponte will report to him,” The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor wrote.

Additionally, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported that Schoen’s responsibilities have been significantly reduced and now no longer reports directly to Harbaugh, which not only indicates that he will be significantly demoted in all positions except title, but that his tenure with the Giants may not last as long as he hopes.
