Oklahoma’s offense certainly isn’t where it needs to be in 2025. That was enough to help Oklahoma win 10 games, but they were largely inconsistent. The Sooners need to improve their offense if they want to make the College Football Playoff again in 2026.
With the transfer portal opening on Jan. 2, Oklahoma State will have a chance to improve its offense, which is a New Year’s resolution for Oklahoma State according to CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford.
Brent Venables has made it clear he wants quarterback John Martel back in 2026, despite the Clippers’ inconsistency this fall. If he does, Oklahoma will install a signal caller and system for the second straight year that puts the onus on weapons in the backfield and outfield. – Crawford, CBS Sports
The Oklahoma Sooners will be active in the transfer portal, giving Ben Arbuckle and John Martel more options in the passing game. Even if Oklahoma is able to retain Isaiah Sategna, the Sooners will need to find a player who can step in on the outside and start right away. Someone who can match Sategna’s stature.

Javonnie Gibson will return, and Oklahoma has talented wide receivers in Zion Kearney, Ivan Carreon, Elijah Thomas, Emmanuel Choice, Jayden Petit and Daniel Odom, but not much production on the roster. The Sooners have to find a way to develop their young talent so they can get them on the field, but there’s no chance they’ll enter 2026 with outside question marks.
That’s why you see arguably their top player in the transfer portal, wide receiver Cam Coleman. It will come at a cost for them to bring in Coleman and retain Satgna, but if the Sooners can do it, it will give their offense a huge boost in 2026.
Running back is certainly an area of concern as Xavier Robinson and Torrey Blaylock battle injuries in 2025. They were productive at times, but the Sooners’ running game struggled most of the time. The offensive line needs work, and so does the scheme, but Oklahoma State can use some experience to lead the running back space this offseason and into 2026 with Jovanta Barnes and Jaydon Ott set to go.
It remains to be seen how much Oklahoma State will prioritize acquiring skill position players, but you can bet they’ll be active when the transfer portal opens on Friday.
