Washington Commanders worked out six players ahead of Week 18

The job of an NFL general manager is never-ending.

While players know this weekend is the season finale for every team, general managers, like Adam Peters of the Washington Commanders, are still hard at work finding players and developing them. As a result, the Commanders tried out six players on Monday.

Here are the six players:

When a team only has 4-12 players, a GM like Peters needs to keep digging, digging, looking for players who can fill his specific team role. As far as Peters and Commander are concerned, Washington has lost 10 of its last 11 games. A team that had lost nearly all of its previous 11 games needed help…a lot of help…and fast.

But playoff teams are still practicing heavily, too. For example, their players are still injured and some even lost in the playoffs. They now need a player to either sign to their active roster or replace a practice squad player who was elevated to the active roster due to the previously mentioned injury.

Why are the Commanders holding workouts for players heading into the Week 18 season finale? Peters knows the Commander roster is in trouble, so he’s working tirelessly, already evaluating the players on his 90-man roster that he can start assembling once this horrific season is over. When the season ends, teams can sign players who are not currently on NFL rosters.

Peters and other general managers also want to develop players released from other teams’ practice squads. These players have been in training camp all season, and most are eager to return to another NFL team. In addition, Peters and Commanders head coach Dan Quinn could find several players who are now healthy and practicing better, whom the Commanders will sign to future contracts in January.
