Brandin Podziemski had a tough game as the Golden State Warriors fell to the Detroit Pistons 115-101, losing for the fourth time in five games. Podemski’s workload has been increasing in recent weeks as the Golden State Warriors have been dealing with injuries. However, the heavier loads also showcased some of Bodemski’s best skills and his biggest areas for improvement.
During a recent press conference, Steve Kerr discussed Podemski’s current role and how he works to balance his immediate impact with future development into a well-rounded player, specifically as a go-to option on offense.

“It’s been a great experience for Brandon,” Cole said. “I mean, 20 games without Steph. I think he’s proven over his career that he can help drive wins. I think that’s evident in his third year, is this his third year? Yeah, third year. Yeah. Obviously. He’s done a lot that can help drive wins. Leigh things. In my opinion, he’s really exploring how good he can be and what type of player he wants to be. I think you’re seeing a lot of issues along the way. He’s trying some things that aren’t working, but playing 20 games without Steph is going to expose some of those issues.”
Kerr continued.
“Now, in the position he’s in, if he plays next to Steph, if he plays more of a secondary ball-handler role, he’s really good. He does a lot of things that other players don’t do. He has a knack. You’ll see him get into some trouble when he tries to have the ball too much. . The downside is part of being a young player. And then I think for him to sort out all of that and what that means. It’s definitely going to be a really interesting time for him to explore that stuff and explore your own game while trying to help the team win.”
Podemski played in all 20 games Curry missed, averaging 15 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, shooting 50.2% from the field and 33.1% from three-point range. He’s certainly learning what it takes to be one of the NBA’s premier options and overcoming the obstacles that come with this difficult role.

Still, the extra exposure is a good thing for his long-term development and the team, as they can see what Podziemski’s future looks like as a key part of the roster going forward.
