ARLINGTON, Texas – For the first time since 2021, a new Texas Interscholastic League 3A Division II champion will be crowned.

Wall ended Gunter’s reign as a three-time 3A DII champion and now looks to win his first title when the Eagles face Newton for the 3A DII title Thursday night at AT&T Stadium.

This will be Wall’s second trip to the state championship game. The only time it appeared was in 2013.
Wall looked dominant for the most part, posting a 15-0 record and winning by double digits in all but one game. The Eagles’ only close win came last week, when Wall defeated Gunter in a hard-fought 28-25 semifinal game.

Prior to that, Wall had scored at least 48 points in the first four playoff games, including 77 points in a two-district win over Anthony.
Newton is playing in its eighth state championship game. The Eagles have previously won the championship in 1974, 1998, 2005, 2017 and 2018.
Newton is 14-1 on the season, with its only loss coming in the season opener, 32-24, to West Orange-Stark, which will compete for the 4A Division II championship on Friday. The Eagles scored no fewer than 54 points in their final six regular-season games.
They have continued their impressive scoring prowess in the playoffs, scoring 70 and 68 points in their first two playoff games. Last week, Newton scored 74 points in a 74-20 victory over East Bernard in the semifinals.
