Several Texas high school football players solidified themselves as true legends, especially in their communities, with outstanding performances in last week’s UIL state championship game.

Top performances from Texas high school football state championships

(This list is in alphabetical order)

X’Zavier Barnett, Yocum

Barnett, a senior linebacker and SMU signee, rushed for 193 yards and five touchdowns on 17 carries in the Bulldogs’ 45-29 victory over Grandview in the 3A DI championship game.

Brett Bowman, Hamilton

Bowman had 16 tackles, including nine solo interceptions, in the Bulldogs’ 21-7 victory over Joaquin for the 2A DI championship. He was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

Jalen Burkard, Galena Park North Shore

Bocard, a senior receiver, caught four passes for 79 yards and the Mustangs’ only touchdown in a 10-7 victory over Duncanville in the 6A Division I championship game. He almost made another great catch in the win, but it was canceled out due to a penalty.

Hudson Butch, Stephenville

As a senior linebacker, Butch helped his defense shutout the Yellow Jackets in a 10-0 victory over Kilgore in the 4A DI championship game. He made 10 tackles, caught a pass and forced a fumble for another takeaway.

Carson Carney, Munster

Carney, a senior quarterback, had 241 yards of total offense as the Hornets defeated Shiner 28-0 to retain the 2A Division II championship. He passed for three touchdowns while running for another touchdown.

KJ Edwards, Carthage

Edwards, a standout senior back for the Bulldogs and a Texas A&M signee, finished his high school career with 12 carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns as Carthage defeated West Orange-Stark 49-21 in the 4A DII championship game. One of his touchdown runs went 87 yards.

Ethan Feist, DeSoto

As a senior receiver, Feaster earned his third state championship ring as the Eagles defeated Houston Sheldon King 55-27 in the 6A DII championship game. He caught 10 passes for 167 yards and two scores. Then on Sunday, Feaster officially signed to play at USC next season.

Tony Guillory, Galena Park North Shore

Guillory, a junior, was named the Defensive Most Outstanding Player in the Mustangs’ 6A DI championship game victory over Duncanville. He finished with 10 tackles, one for a loss, and intercepted a pass deep in his own territory on the opening drive of the game.

Hamilton Halston Hale

Hale rushed 22 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 21-7 victory over Joaquin in the 2A DI championship game.

Jaydon Bodham

Hamm had a great game as the Jaybirds defeated Richland Springs 99-54 for the 1A Division II championship. He rushed for 28 yards on defense, rushed for 430 yards and 10 touchdowns, passed for 118 yards and three touchdowns, and made eight tackles, three of them for a loss. Ham’s 13 total touchdowns set a UIL state single-game record. He was named the Most Outstanding Player on offense and defense.

Hunter Hauge, Smithson Valley

Haug, a junior receiver, caught five passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in the Rangers’ 28-6 victory over Frisco Lone Star in the 5A DI championship game. He was named the most outstanding player on offense.

Colton Hornsby, Smithson Valley

Hornsby, a senior linebacker, had 11 tackles, a sack and an interception for a touchdown in the Rangers’ 5A DI championship game victory.

Legendary Howell, DeSoto

As a senior quarterback, Howell completed 19 of 25 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns in helping the Eagles defeat Houston Sheldon King in the 6A DII championship game.

Colby Gendzer (Yoakum)

In the Bulldogs’ 3A DI championship game victory over Grandview, Jendrzey had 15 tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble reception.

Trot Jordan, Stephenville

Jordan, a junior quarterback, totaled 164 yards in the Yellow Jackets’ 4A DI championship game victory over Kilgore. He rushed for 86 yards and passed for a touchdown.

Jamarion Phillips, South Oak Cliff

Senior linebacker Phillips was named Most Outstanding Player in the Golden Bears’ 35-19 win over Richmond Randall in the 5A Division II championship game. He finished with 13 tackles, 2.5 for a loss, and one pass.

Stryker Reed, Gordon

Reed rushed for 160 yards and four touchdowns on just seven carries as the Longhorns defeated Rankin 69-22 in the 1A Division I championship game. He also completed two pass attempts for 53 yards.

Reed Robertson, Wall

As a senior receiver, Robertson caught five passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles advanced to a 25-24 win over Newton for the 3A DII championship and a 16-0 season.

Rose was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the Eagles’ 6A DII championship game win. He made four tackles, including two solo interceptions, and returned an interception 94 yards for a touchdown.

Gavin Thiessen, Wall

Sisson was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the Eagles’ 3A DII championship game victory. He recorded 13 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and half a sack.

Jet Surratt, Carthage

In his final game as a Bulldog, the senior quarterback completed 20 of 28 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns as the team won the 4A DII championship game.

Mikael Trotter, South Oak Cliff

Trotter rushed 11 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns in the Golden Bears’ 5A DII championship game victory over Richmond Randle.
