Do you think the Virginia Tech Hokies are done? While the transfer portal may have closed on Friday, players who entered on or before the 16th can still submit. Head coach James Franklin found another potential starter through the portal on Saturday, as Ohio State offensive tackle Justin Terry revealed his commitment to Virginia Tech.
Terry is a 6-foot-5, 324-pound offensive tackle from Pickerington, Ohio. Terry, a three-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, initially committed to West Virginia, where current Virginia Tech offensive line coach Matt Moore was employed at the time. Terry entered the transfer portal after his first season in Morgantown and nearly chose the Hokies last year, but after an offer from his hometown Buckeyes, Terry went to Ohio State.

After not playing as a true freshman in 2024 and taking a redshirt year, he played in just 57 games for the Buckeyes in 2025, appearing in six games – all at right tackle. If things go the way we expect, Terry will likely start at right tackle for Virginia Tech in 2026, while Oklahoma State transfer Logan Horan will start at left tackle. Incumbents Johnny Garrett and Aidan Lynch will also be involved.
A redshirt freshman in 2025, Lynch showed great potential under Moore’s tutelage and could compete with Terry at right tackle.
Terry is the second former Buckeye to join the Hokies’ 2026 portal offense, joining defensive tackle Eric Mensah. This is a big change from the previous portal, when the Hokies recruited linemen from FCS schools.
