A Lakewood father shot and killed his wife and youngest daughter Thursday, then shot his older daughter and killed himself in front of her, authorities said.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 5800 block of Lorelai Avenue near South Street around 7:55 a.m. Thursday.
The caller said her father shot her and was lying unconscious on the floor near her, according to authorities.
When deputies arrived, they encountered an “extremely distraught” 19-year-old woman who came out and was taken into custody for questioning. Inside, they found three dead people – a teenage girl, a man and a woman.
Officers entered the home and found the woman’s father, 52, lying on the floor of the family’s study with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
As deputies continued to search the house, they found Alfaro’s 48-year-old wife in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her torso.
In the second bedroom, officers found a 17-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was later identified as Alfaro’s youngest daughter.
The 19-year-old woman, Alfaro’s eldest daughter, was sleeping when she heard gunshots inside the house.
Alfaro then appeared near her with a handgun and shot her several times. However, she was not hit by gunfire.
Alfaro then shot himself while standing next to his 19-year-old daughter.
The 19-year-old man was not injured and was taken to the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station to be interviewed by investigators. LASD Lt. Daniel Vizcarra noted that she is not a suspect or person of interest in the case.
The lieutenant confirmed a gun was found in the home.
Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters cleared the scene by 8:51 a.m. and no one was sent to the hospital, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
A 17-year-old girl and two adults were found dead after a triple shooting at a Lakewood home Thursday morning, authorities said.
“There is no threat to the public at large and there are no outstanding suspects,” Rogers wrote on social media.
Sheriff’s Capt. Daniel Holguin told reporters at the scene: “Obviously, this incident is a tragedy. Lakewood is one of the safest cities in Los Angeles. This tragedy will certainly impact our community, but as (Vizcarra) said, at this time, it appears to be an isolated incident and there is no safety concern for the public at this time.”
