Victims in Lakewood murder-suicide honored at candlelight vigil; GoFundMe launched to support family

A somber candlelight vigil was held and a GoFundMe campaign was launched the day after a man killed his wife and teenage daughter before shooting himself in their Lakewood home.

Sienna Alfaro, nicknamed Lilly by her soccer teammates, plays for Beach Soccer Club.

“If there’s one thing I can say about Lily, it’s that she was a ray of sunshine,” teammate Hazel Feynman said at the vigil. “She was a very happy person. Her smile would light up a room. Her energy was out of this world, like when she walked in, even though she was a shy girl, when she smiled, it was like everyone knew we just connected.”

A city council member said three shootings at a Lakewood home that left a 17-year-old girl and two adults dead were a murder-suicide.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 5800 block of Lorelai Avenue near South Street around 7:55 a.m. Thursday.

The caller said her father shot her and was lying unconscious on the floor near her, according to authorities.

When deputies arrived, they encountered an “extremely distraught” 19-year-old woman who came out and was taken into custody for questioning. They found three dead people inside the house: a 17-year-old girl, a man and a woman.

Officers entered the home and found Hector Lionel Alfaro, 52, lying on the floor of the home’s study with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

As deputies continued to search the home, they found the shooter’s wife, Roxana Rodriguez, 48, in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her torso.

A city council member said three shootings at a Lakewood home that left a 17-year-old girl and two adults dead were a murder-suicide.

In the second bedroom, officers found Sienna Alfaro suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body.

The 19-year-old woman, Alfaro’s eldest daughter, was sleeping when she heard gunshots inside the house. Hector Alfaro then appeared near her, armed with a pistol and shot her several times; however, she was not hit by the gunfire. He then shot himself while standing next to his 19-year-old daughter.

Two firearms were found in the home, authorities said.

As of Saturday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised more than $70,000.

“This fundraiser is to support the surviving siblings as they begin their long journey of recovery, helping them with immediate needs (funeral services), counseling, living expenses, and creating some stability during an extremely painful time,” a statement on the fundraising page reads. “Any donation, no matter how big or small, or even sharing this page, is a way to show love, support and remind them that they are not alone.”
