Victim identified in deadly shooting outside Syracuse sports bar

Updated 11/2/26 at 4:14 pm: The person killed in the shooting has been identified as 33-year-old Jonathan Pitts of Syracuse.


SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse police say a 33-year-old man has died after being shot in the chest. His name has not yet been released.

Police said officers were called to the 900 block of Park Avenue after the city’s ShotSpotter technology notified them of a shooting. The shooting occurred just after 10pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

When officers arrived on scene, they were told a man was taken to Crouse Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest, according to a news release from the Syracuse Police Department.

The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Hours after the shooting, police established a crime scene cordon around the Playmakers Sports Bar at 901 Park Avenue. Evidence markers can also be seen in front of the bar.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing. They ask anyone with information to call (315) 442-5222.
