USC notches fifth straight win with physical play against Indiana Hoosiers

LOS ANGELES — The Troy USC women’s team may have been on a five-game winning streak, their longest streak of the season, with a 79-73 win over the Indiana Hoosiers, but they used every ounce of toughness and tenacity to push the game forward.

Jazzy Davidson once again led the Trojans with a team-high 24 points and six rebounds on 8-for-17 shooting.

Kennedy Smith and Kara Dunn had similar numbers. Smith scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting, while Dunn scored 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting.

While Davidson, Smith and Dunn all scored, USC struggled overall, posting an abysmal 3-10 record against Big Ten opponents in conference play.

The Hoosiers entered the Galen Center on Thursday night without their best player – and the Big Ten’s leading scorer – senior guard Shay Ciezki, but in the end, freshman Maia Makaloski stepped up for Indiana, finishing with a whopping 29 points on 9-for-15 shooting and six rebounds.

Macaloski took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points and spearheading the Indians’ failed comeback.

USC, on the other hand, kept Indiana at bay long enough to secure the win but didn’t play their best game.

In this game, the Trojan women’s soccer team shot only 38% from the field, while the Indians shot 48% from the field.

The Trojan women’s soccer team dominated the boards, grabbing 38 of the team’s rebounds and stealing the ball 11 times from the Indians, making up for a tough shooting night defensively.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 16-9 on the season and 8-6 in the Big Ten.
