USA TODAY: Texas A&M senior OL could ‘dazzle’ at NFL combine

The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine kicks off on Thursday, February 26, inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (Ind.), and for the first time since the late 1970s, Texas A&M will send a nation-high 13 players to the combine, including one of the program’s most underrated veterans on the offensive line.

Among the possible first-round picks that include unanimous All-American rusher Cashius Howell and star wide receiver KC Concepcion, former three-star tight end prospect Dametrious Crownover, who performed well at the Senior Bowl earlier this month, was named a USA Today top-10 combine prospect who could “test well” due to his elite size, strength and huge potential.

Texas A&M has a history of developing NFL-caliber offensive linemen dating back to the 1980s and even earlier, and while the Aggies haven’t been one of the most successful programs in the postseason, Cronover is just another example of an undervalued prospect becoming a future draft pick.

Ranked No. 10 in writer Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz’s rankings, Crownover has another chance to, yes, “dazzle the scouts in the room” and further boost his draft stock.

The nature of the event isn’t particularly conducive to creating star opportunities for offensive linemen, who were relegated to something of an afterthought on Sunday as they were last tested. Still, there are usually a few big men who are able to draw attention with their athleticism.

Crownover is nowhere near as productive as the top offensive tackle prospects in this class, but the 6-foot-7, 336-pound blocker is the kind of project general managers and coaches would be happy to sign. In addition to his imposing size and wingspan, the former tight end is mobile enough to be an upper-level pass protector if he can put it all together.

Whether he can get there, however, remains a big unknown, as he’s often plagued by the leverage issues faced by many taller linemen. But the combine should serve as a reminder of what can be unlocked. “

Crownover’s size and impressive footwork make him an attractive player to any coaching staff who needs an immediate swing at tackle and a bright starting prospect, and, as we’ve seen with several former Texas A&M draft prospects in the past, the combine is the first step.
