The U.S. women’s hockey team won its third gold medal in Olympic history.
The United States defeated Canada 2-1 in a tight game in Milan on Thursday.
Canadian Christian O’Neill scored the first goal of the game in the second quarter.

With just over two minutes left in the third period, U.S. team captain and four-time Olympian Hilary Knight scored to send the game into overtime.
This is the third time in the past four Olympics that the U.S. and Canadian women’s hockey teams have needed overtime to decide the gold medal winner, NBC reports.
With her goal, Knight broke Team USA’s Olympic goals record, bringing it to 15, NBC reported.
Knight, a 36-year-old California native, had previously announced that this year’s Olympics would be her last.
Megan Keller scored less than a minute into overtime to give the U.S. the win.
Earlier on Thursday, Switzerland defeated Sweden 2-1 in overtime to claim the bronze medal.
