Urbig praises team performance, hints at possible Germany call-up

Jonas Urbiger, who returned to full fitness in time for the game, described Bayern’s preparations for their latest Champions League match against Atalanta Bergamo as “unusual”.

“It’s been an unusual week at first – “I have to slowly return to training to regain fitness,” the goalkeeper explained. “I felt good again in training yesterday and I can play today.”

Urbiger played an important role in Bayern’s game and perfectly integrated into the team’s offensive tactics. He stressed the importance of pinning opponents deep in their own half.

“We always want to keep the opponent high in our own half and it worked well today,” he said. “If they do pass, I’m glad to be there to save.

The young goalkeeper also showed sportsmanship after last week’s game, saying Atalanta’s strikers reached out to him following his injury.

“The striker from Atalanta Bergamo wrote to me last week after he got injured – that’s very nice.”

When asked about the possibility of being called up for the German national team for the first time, Urbig kept his attitude relaxed and a little amused.

“I haven’t received a call yet, but I’m told someone is trying to contact me,” he said with a smile. “I have to check my phone – we’ll see.”
