Updated SEC standings after Texas A&M’s 75-71 road win over Oklahoma

Texas A&M (19-8, 9-5 SEC) beat Oklahoma 75-71 on the road this week, three days after beating Oklahoma 75-71, and three days after beating Ole Miss 80-77 on Wednesday. Led by balanced scoring, the Aggies shot 44% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc, hitting 10 three-pointers on the night.

After snapping a four-game losing streak, first-year head coach Bucky McMillon made it clear to his team after Wednesday’s win that beating the Rebels was a “must-win” situation, and while none of us are viewing Saturday’s road test as a must-win situation, Texas A&M can’t afford to lose another game against the SEC’s bottom half and needs at least 11 wins to clinch a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Led by power forward Rashawn Aggie’s 18 points and seven rebounds, the Chicago native’s two free throws gave the Aggies a 74-71 lead with just over 20 seconds left, and after Oklahoma State missed a 3-pointer, the Aggies’ 11 free throws looked to be huge for the road win despite being held scoreless for more than three minutes in the second half.

With the win, Texas A&M escapes ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi’s bubble line and returns to action before a road game against Arkansas on Wednesday night. Elsewhere in the SEC, Florida won its seventh straight game, while Vanderbilt has lost two in a row after losing to Tennessee at home. Auburn ended a miserable five-game losing streak at home with a stunning win over Kentucky.

Ahead of the penultimate week of action, here are the updated SEC basketball rankings.
