Up to 11 inches of snow and ice forecast for parts of New York

Up to 11 inches of snow and ice are expected in parts of New York by early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the northern and eastern Empire State from Tuesday morning into early Thursday morning. The length of warnings and ice and snow amounts vary by location.

Forecasters said road conditions were expected to be slippery in the affected areas.

Here’s more information about the affected counties:

Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis Counties

The advisory will run from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Thursday. The Tug Hill Plateau is expected to receive 6 to 11 inches of snow, while lower elevations are expected to receive only 3 to 6 inches.

Northern Adirondacks

In parts of St. Lawrence, Franklin and Clinton counties, advisory hours are from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. Between 3 and 6 inches of snow are expected to fall during this period, with heavier amounts at higher elevations.

Hamilton and Herkimer Counties

The advisory will run from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Thursday. Snowfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches are expected. A light ice glaze may also appear.

central new york

The warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Thursday in parts of Oneida, Madison and Onondaga counties. Snowfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches are expected, with a thin layer of ice.

hudson valley/capital region

The warning is in effect from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday in portions of Albany, Schoharie, Greene, Columbia, Ulster and Dutchess counties. Up to 2 inches of snow is expected with a layer of ice.

South Tier/Catskills

The warning is in effect from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday in portions of Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan counties. A period of light freezing rain is expected, with a chance of drizzle.

hudson valley

Morning consultation hours are Tuesday 6pm to Wednesday 6am. Mixed precipitation is expected, with up to an inch of snow and a layer of ice.
