The best time of the year is right here. Over the next few weeks, college basketball fans around the world will have their eyes on the NCAA Tournament.
The University of North Carolina men’s basketball team, which earned a berth as the sixth seed in the South Division, will open its NCAA tournament against No. 11 seed Virginia Commonwealth University on Thursday, March 19, at 6:50 p.m. The winner of that game will play either Illinois or Penn State on Saturday.

While all the focus is on playoff basketball right now, the former Tar Heel (24-8, 12-6 ACC) just earned himself another coaching job. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro hired Jerrold Haas as its next head coach on Wednesday.
Haas served as an assistant coach at UNC under Roy Williams from 2003 to 2012 and was named to the 2005 and 2009 national championship teams. With 255 wins, Haas has proven himself to be an attractive head coaching candidate.
Haas spent four years at UAB, leading the Blazers to their first NCAA tournament title in a decade. Stanford hired Haas before the 2016-17 season, but success never came to fruition in the West, and the Cardinal made just one postseason appearance (2017-18 NIT) under the former UNC assistant coach.

After two seasons at the helm, Haas hopes to lead UNC Greensboro back to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021.
Meanwhile, the Tar Heels will make their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance Thursday night against the red-hot Atlantic 10 champion VCU Rams (24-7, 15-3 A-10). North Carolina knows how to win games despite injuries, so can Henry Vissar and Seth Trimble lead a young, deeper roster deep into the playoffs?
