Ubisoft Has No Plans for a Second Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expansion

Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will not have a second story expansion. The developer says there are currently no plans to expand Awaji Claws, the game’s first and only major story DLC so far. “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” released the “Claws of Awaji” expansion pack in September. The game has also received multiple updates since its release, adding new gameplay features and improvements.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois confirmed the news in a recent interview with YouTube’s JorRaptor, known for its Assassin’s Creed content. When asked if a second DLC on the same level as Awaji Claws was still in the works, Lemay-Comtois stated that Ubisoft has no current plans for a second expansion.

“It’s important to note that anything can happen in the future, and as The Phantom has just proven, and as the Odyssey and Valhalla crossover story has proven before, something can happen in the future,” he said. “But as of now, there are no plans to expand the size of Awaji Airport in the second year.

“We’re still developing and supporting post-launch content, but it’s not a complete DLC like the season passes of previous years.”

Lemay-Comtois said Ubisoft’s approach is to react and see how the Assassin’s Creed community feels about the update. He said any experience gleaned from Assassin’s Creed: Shadows’ release will be applied to future projects.

Assassin’s Creed Updates

Shadow’s lack of a second expansion marks a departure from Ubisoft’s post-launch strategy for recent Assassin’s Creed games. For example, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla received two years of post-launch support and multiple story expansions.

Recently, Ubisoft launched the free story DLC “Valley of Memories” for “Assassin’s Creed Phantoms”. The Valley of Memories expansion, released on November 18, adds new locations, new story chapters, and other gameplay features to Assassin’s Creed Phantoms.

Since its launch in March, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has received a number of updates, bringing gameplay and parkour improvements. The game also received the Awaji Claws expansion pack in September, which added approximately 10 hours of new content and a new Awaji Island location.

Earlier this week, Ubisoft released new free Attack on Titan missions, along with title update 1.1.6 for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. The limited-time mission lasts until December 22nd.

“Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” launches on March 20 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The action-adventure game will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2.
