Tyson Fury coming out of retirement in April to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov

LONDON (AP) — Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will return to action on April 11 against Arslanbek Makhmudov.

Turki al-Arasheh, chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority and chairman of the Saudi Boxing Federation, confirmed the highly-anticipated fight on Wednesday. The location has not yet been announced.

“It’s great to be back,” Tyson said. “Boxing has always been and always will be about the heart.”

Fury retired last year after losing to Alexander Usyk for the second time in December 2024. Prior to his two fights with Usyk, the British boxer was undefeated in 35 fights with 34 wins and one draw.

Fury announced on January 4 that he would be returning to action.

“I’m excited about this opportunity,” said Makhmudov, a Russian heavyweight who lives in Canada. “I’m here to start a war. Tyson Fury is a great champion. I’m going to leave with a huge victory more ready than ever.”

Two-time world champion Fury ended Wladimir Klitschko’s reign with a points victory in 2015 that crowned him the super WBA, IBF and WBO champion.

He didn’t fight again until 2018, but a thrilling trilogy with American Deontay Wilder ended in a draw and two wins to help him capture the WBC title.

Fury has previously stated that he will retire after defeating Dillian Whyte in 2022. However, he returned to the ring the following year.
