Two females were victims of sex crime, SC police say. Man may have targeted more

A South Carolina man with a long criminal history was recently rearrested on charges he exposed himself to two women, including a minor, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Police said in a news release Saturday that there may be more victims of the man’s alleged sex crimes.

Desmond D. Metcalf, 38, was charged with two counts of indecent exposure, according to the release.

Metcalf is accused of exposing himself to two victims, one of whom police said was a juvenile, on Jan. 9 in the 1600 block of Willoughby Street, according to a news release. The incident occurred near the intersection of Interstate 77 Percival Road and Exit 15.

Metcalf is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, police said. Jail records show Metcalfe remains jailed on bail totaling $15,000.

He is scheduled to return to court on March 18, according to Richland County court records. Metcalfe’s current attorney is unclear, but he has been represented in separate cases in the past by attorneys Todd Rutherford, Mark Schnee and the Public Defender’s Office, court records show.

Before Friday’s arrest, Metcalf had been charged with 11 counts of indecent exposure or similar sex crimes over the past decade, according to court records. Eight of the charges were dismissed or not prosecuted, court records show.

Metcalf pleaded guilty to one count in 2019, while two other charges are pending arrest in April 2023 and January 2025, according to court records.

Despite his recent arrest, police continue to investigate Metcalf. Anyone else harmed by Metcalf is asked to call police at 803-545-3991.
