Tucker Carlson claimed in an interview on Wednesday that a member of Congress told him that lawmakers had been informed that President Donald Trump Tonight declares “war is coming.”
Carlson joins Andrew Napolitano in his freedom of judgment On Wednesday’s podcast, they discuss growing tensions with Venezuela over attacks on alleged drug smuggling ships, as well as Trump’s scheduled address to the nation tonight.
“Will Trump start a war in Venezuela?” Napolitano asked Carlson.
Carlson said members of Congress were briefed on Trump’s plans, but added that he did not know the actual content of Trump’s speech.
“So far, all I know is that members of Congress were briefed yesterday that war is coming, and the president will announce it tonight in his address to the nation at nine o’clock,” Carlson said. “By the way, who knows if that’s actually going to happen.”
The former Fox News host claimed he was informed of the briefing by a member of Congress that morning.
Carlson opposes military action against Venezuela, arguing that it would repeat the foreign policy mistakes of the past.
“To my knowledge, there has been no regime change effort in 80 years that has benefited the United States or the world,” he said.
Trump has repeatedly accused the Venezuelan president of Nicolás Maduro Maduro’s electoral victory has long been disputed, with U.S. and global officials casting doubt on the results.
“The illegitimate Maduro regime is using the oil from these stolen fields to finance itself and engage in narco-terrorism, human trafficking, murder and kidnapping. Due to the theft of our assets, as well as many other reasons including terrorism, drug smuggling and human trafficking, the Venezuelan regime has been designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization,” Trump declared this week.
The president also has his sights set on the Colombian president Gustavo Petroresponding to his criticism of recent ship attacks, warning he could soon have “big problems.”
“If he’s not smart, he’s going to cause himself some big problems,” Trump told reporters. “Did he say Colombia produces a lot of drugs? They have cocaine factories, they make cocaine, as you know, and sell it directly to the United States. So he better be smart or he’s next.”
