president Donald Trump On Monday night, he published a shocking post on the Truth social networking site, wildly claiming that China would “terminate all ice hockey games in Canada.”

Trump’s bizarre posts began with him expressing displeasure with the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan, which is expected to open in early 2026.

“As we all know, Canada has been very unfair to the United States for decades. Now, things are getting better in the United States, and fast! But imagine Canada is building a giant bridge between Ontario and Michigan. They have the Canadian and American sides, and of course, building it with almost no American content. President Barack Hussein Obama foolishly gave them an exemption so they could bypass the Buy American Act and not use any American products, including our steel,” Trump began, adding:

Now, the Canadian government wants me, as President of the United States, to allow them to “take advantage of America!” What has the United States of America gained – absolutely nothing! Ontario won’t even put American spirits, drinks and other alcoholic products on their shelves, has absolutely banned them from doing so, and now on top of that, Prime Minister Carney wants a deal with China – which will eat Canada alive. We just eat the leftovers! I don’t think so. The first thing China will do is end all ice hockey games in Canada and permanently cancel the Stanley Cup. Canada’s tariffs on our dairy products have been unacceptable for years, putting our farmers at significant financial risk. I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States fully compensates us for everything we have given them, and it is important that Canada treats the United States with the fairness and respect we deserve. We will start negotiations immediately. With everything we give them, we should probably own at least half of this asset. The revenue generated by the U.S. market will be astronomical. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Canada, the United States’ largest trading partner, has been revamping its global trade agreements to make up for Trump’s on-again, off-again tariffs on various Canadian industries. In late January, Trump threatened to impose 100% tariffs on Canada after the Canadian government announced it was negotiating a new trade deal with China. To avoid new tariffs, Canadian PM Mark Carney Denies that a comprehensive free trade agreement with China is in the works.

Last fall, Carney announced the end of the U.S.-Canada trade relationship while speaking to reporters on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

“We know that the decades-long process of closer economic ties between Canada and the United States has ended, and as a result, many of our strengths have become our weaknesses, particularly in those industries most closely tied to the United States,” Carney said at the time.
