On Wednesday, President Donald Trump once again received an award — yet another honor that has never been bestowed before and may never be given again.
The Washington Coal Club presented the president with a trophy at a White House ceremony, declaring him the “undisputed champion of beautiful clean coal.”

Since his first administration, Trump has worked to make it easier to increase coal production, often using the term “clean coal” to describe it, although critics say the concept is pure fiction.
The president announced funding for coal-fired power plants in five states on Wednesday and ordered the Department of Defense to purchase power from coal-fired power plants, CNBC reported.
There, he also received a new statuette in recognition of his efforts on behalf of the industry:

Since returning to the White House, Trump has received awards, medals and honors at various levels.
Israel will award him two honors: the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor and the Israel Prize. Separately, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Trump he nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, an award the president is openly obsessed with and publicly sulked over not receiving.

He did eventually receive one honor, albeit a second-hand one: Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who won last year, gave Trump her award during a visit to the White House last month.
Last year, football’s governing body awarded Trump its first and only FIFA Peace Prize, an award seemingly reserved for the president.
Trump also received another unusual award before winning the 2024 presidential election: Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.), who owns multiple McDonald’s franchises, awarded him the “McDonald’s French Fries Certified Badge.”
He also received various other gifts, including a Rolex clock and $130,000 worth of gold bars from a Swiss delegation hoping to get him to lower tariffs.
Although the move is currently facing an ethics investigation in Switzerland, it worked.

CEOs such as Apple’s Tim Cook often present various trinkets to Trump in grand ceremonies. Cook gave the president a “unique” gold-bottomed glass.
Given this context, the president’s critics mocked him for adding yet another trophy to his long list of participation trophies:
