President Donald Trump can finally boast about natural gas prices after multiple analyzes showed the average cost of natural gas has dropped to a four-year low.
For months, Trump has falsely claimed that gas prices were below $2 a gallon, despite having no evidence to support the claim. However, recent data from AAA and GasBuddy shows that as of Monday, the national average natural gas price has fallen to a four-year low.
AAA reported last week that the national average gas price fell to $2.94 per gallon, the lowest average in four years. According to AAA, Oklahoma has the lowest average gas price at $2.36 per gallon, while Hawaii has the highest average gas price at $4.44 per gallon.
GasBuddy reported on Monday that natural gas prices fell for a third straight week, hitting their lowest levels since March 2021. As of Monday, the national average price was $2.85 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
“The national average gasoline price fell for a third consecutive week, setting another multi-year low,” Patrick De Haan, director of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a statement.
He added: “In the run-up to Christmas, the national average reached its lowest level since March 12, 2021, with weekly savings of almost $400 million compared to the same period last year.”
De Haan noted that “natural gas prices are currently low in most states, and the good news is that the downward trend is likely to continue into the final innings of 2025, with further declines likely across much of the country.”

The White House social media team promoted GasBuddy’s data on X. White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt called low oil prices the “Trump effect” in a post.
“Just two weeks later, 38 states now have average gas prices below $3 a gallon and falling!” the White House shared on X.
