Things are not going well for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on the field in 2025. While Kelce’s numbers are up after a slump in 2024, it hasn’t led to many wins for the Chiefs.
Week 15 proved to be the final nail in the team’s coffin. Not only did the Chiefs lose quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL, but they were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

This is unfamiliar territory for Kelce, who spoke candidly about both situations on Wednesday’s episode of “New Heights.”
When talking about Mahomes, Kelce said it feels unreal watching the injuries happen on the field. He summed up the entire experience succinctly by saying, “It was just awful, man.”
“To see 15 guys go down like that in a freak game, it’s damn, almost like unreal. It sucks, man. For a guy who puts in so much, puts his body on the line week in and week out, and … makes the most of it with his effort. It sucks, man.”
Mahomes and Kelce are obviously very close. On the court, the two had a great chemistry. Mahomes’ 59 pass-catcher total is by far the most by any receiver. Off the field, the two are often seen together. This will definitely make Kelce’s injury more serious.
With the Chiefs now out of the playoff picture, Kelce vowed to continue playing hard so the team can “finish games at the highest level we can.”

This is the first time since Kelce’s second season in the NFL that the Chiefs have failed to make the playoffs. As you might expect, Kelce was disappointed with the streak ending.
“It obviously sucks, but it’s a new feeling. So, all I know is go out there, play hard, show up and give my guys the best chance to win. That’s the mentality, man.”
Kelce, 36, doesn’t know yet how much he has left in football. Kelce has yet to make any statement regarding his plans, although some have speculated he might call it a career after the season. It’s unclear how much the Chiefs’ failure in 2025 will impact Kelce’s decision. Does he really want to quit after the franchise’s worst year in more than a decade?
As Kelce pointed out, the Chiefs have three games remaining on their schedule. While the outcome doesn’t matter, Kelce will do his best to give Chiefs fans something to cheer about. He didn’t know any other way to play.
