Trae Young had a quiet night (by his standards) to start his Washington Wizards career in Thursday’s loss to the underachieving Utah Jazz.
The former Atlanta Hawks All-Star scored 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 turnovers to help the Jazz win 122-112. It was Young’s Wizards debut after joining the Wizards at the NBA trade deadline and missing time due to knee and quadriceps injuries.

He quickly scored his first points as a wizard.
No Wizards player scored 20 points, while Jazz rookie Ace Bailey scored a career-high 32 points.
Of course, in the long run, the Wizards may not sweat too much for this result.
Will Trae Young and Anthony Davis play a lot of games together in 2025-26?
The same day Young suited up for the Wizards for the first time, the team announced that Anthony Davis was progressing as expected and would be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Under normal circumstances, the Wizards would want Davis and Young to play as much as possible after acquiring them in blockbuster trades this season. Of course, we all know how determined the Wizards are to win this season.

Along with the Jazz, Washington, D.C., is one of several teams vying for the best odds in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, which will determine who goes No. 1 in one of the richest draft classes in recent NBA history. The Wizards had good reason to limit their new star’s playing time in pursuit of a better lottery spot, so much so that their general manager had to insist to reporters that Davis would indeed return this season.
With Young already on the court and Davis recovering, it looks like the two may actually play together in some of the Wizards’ remaining 20 games. There won’t be many games, but there should at least be some value for the two to gain some experience with each other.
