Tourist stabbed unprovoked in Macy’s while changing baby’s diaper

HERD SQUARE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A tourist was stabbed in the back while changing a baby’s diaper at Macy’s Herald Square on Friday, police told PIX11 News.

According to the New York Police Department, the 38-year-old woman from California was in the bathroom when a homeless woman from Massachusetts stabbed her twice for no apparent reason.

Kerri Aherne, 43, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, police said.

Police responded to the stabbing at around 1:15pm on Thursday. The victim was rushed to hospital with multiple stab wounds to her back and cuts to her arms.

A Macy’s spokesperson issued the following statement regarding the incident.

“We are deeply saddened by today’s events as the safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority.”
