Tottenham sack Thomas Frank after dire domestic run

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after just eight months in charge and eight consecutive games without a win in domestic competition.

Spurs suffered another defeat at home on Tuesday night, as similarly underwhelming Newcastle won 2-1 in north London, with fans once again chanting “you’ll be sacked in the morning” at their manager.

Tottenham are now looking for a new coach, with just 11 days left before the north London derby against Arsenal. Spurs lost to Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup and face a relegation battle, and are only 5 points away from 18th-placed West Ham United.

A club statement read: “The club has decided to make a change to the men’s head coaching position with Thomas Frank leaving today. Thomas was appointed in June 2025 and we are determined to give him the time and support he needs to build a future together.

“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that changes are necessary at this stage of the season. Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has acted with unwavering commitment and done everything he can to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future.”

That hostile atmosphere was on display in January’s home defeat to another struggling London rivals, West Ham United. Frustration has grown after dropping points against relegation-threatened Burnley and Saturday’s loss to Manchester United.

While a win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in January seemed to give Frank some breathing space, he followed up with a win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the same game.

But league form proved decisive in Spurs’ decision, although the 52-year-old signed a three-year deal when he replaced Anj Postkoglu at the end of last season, following an impressive seven-year spell at Brentford.

Tottenham’s home Premier League performance under Frank has been particularly poor. They have managed just two home league wins all season and the loss to the Magpies was their seventh home league defeat of the season.

Spurs will now prepare to face Premier League leaders Arsenal before traveling to Fulham and hosting Crystal Palace.
