After going undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2016, Alex Caruso did everything he could to carve out a spot for himself in the NBA early in his career.
Eventually, he became one of the league’s toughest defenders. Now a two-time NBA All-Defensive team selection, Caruso has proven that he will do whatever it takes on the court.

On Tuesday, the 32-year-old guard took that statement to another level, and humorously, it cost him.
When Caruso’s left shoe came off in the second quarter against the Orlando Magic, he picked it up and got creative on defense.

While assisting in the paint, Caruso used his missing shoe to punch Magic forward Tristan DaSilva’s left hand as the latter was preparing for a layup.
Caruso made contact with the ball, which came loose, bounced off da Silva’s arm and flew out of bounds.
However, this game did not result in a mistake by Orlando. Instead, Caruso received a technical foul. The Magic scored two points that Da Silva could have scored. Coupled with Caruso’s subsequent free throw, the Magic scored two points.

The sequence helped Orlando pull off a comeback. At halftime, the Magic tied the Thunder with one point. Then they took the lead early in the third quarter.
