WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Five people were killed in a crash Thursday in Hodgman County.
The Hodgman County Sheriff’s Office is asking drivers to avoid the area of Kansas Highway 156 between Jetmore and Hanston. Jetmore is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Dodge City.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2005 Dodge Dakota was traveling east on the highway when it left the roadway with its passenger tires. The driver of the Dodge then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to spin and hit a 2023 Ford Ranger traveling westbound.
The four passengers in a Dodge – Brianna Mae Katherine Kauffman, 29, of Garden City, and three children under the age of 8 – were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford, 45-year-old Adam William Edwards of Garden City, also died.

The driver of the Dodge, a 48-year-old man, was taken to a Wichita hospital with suspected serious injuries.
According to KHP accident records, no one in either vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
The road reopened shortly before 7 p.m.
