Pietra Todin and Raylin Turner scored a goal each and the Portland Thorns defeated the Seattle Reign 2-0 on Friday night despite two players receiving red cards.
This is the 44th game between the two Pacific Northwest Women’s National Soccer League rivals. Portland’s home opener was played in front of 21,321 fans, setting a record.

In other NWSL games, the Orlando Pride tied with visiting Denver Summit 1-1 and the Washington Spirit tied 2-2 with Louisville Athletic.
Portland midfielder Cassandra Bogle received consecutive yellow cards in the 8th and 9th minutes and was sent off.
But in the 28th minute, Tolding’s header gave the Thorns a 1-0 lead. In the 37th minute, Toddin assisted and Turner’s goal rewritten the score to 2-0.
The home side lost another player in the 58th minute when Reyes was sent off with a straight red card for violence on Madison Curry.
Sophia Wilson and Marie Muller made their Providence Park season debuts within the next minute.

The series between the two teams is now tied at 10-17-17.
Banda scores birthday goal in draw
Summit forward Melissa Kosler and Pride forward Barbara Banda scored for their respective teams for the second straight game in the Orlando draw.
In the 24th minute, Kessler scored on a perfect slider from Tasha Flint.
Banda equalized in the 61st minute on his birthday from Jacquie Ovalle’s cross.
It was the first point gained by Expansion Summit and head coach Nick Cushing since their season-opening loss to Gulf FC.
Louisville Athletic squanders two-goal lead, draws at home
Kayla Fischer opened the scoring for Louisville Athletic in the 28th minute on an assist from Emma Sears.

In the 42nd minute, Sears scored a goal. She picked up a loose puck and dribbled it from end to end past goalie Sandy MacIver for a 2-0 lead.
Sofia Cantore narrowed the Spirit’s gap in the 50th minute with a shot from outside the penalty area. Lacey Santos’ goal in the 74th minute completed the comeback for the visitors.
Spirit midfielder Andy Sullivan returns from maternity leave for her first appearance since October 6, 2024.
