Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract that will see him continue as head coach of the England national team until the end of Euro 2028 in England and Ireland, the Football Association announced on Thursday.
Tuchel was confirmed as Gareth Southgate’s successor in October 2024 and led England to an unbeaten run in this year’s North American World Cup qualifiers, winning all eight group games under the German boss.

“I’m very happy and proud to be extending my stay with England,” said the 52-year-old former Chelsea boss, whose previous contract with the national team only ran until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
“It’s no secret to anyone that I’ve loved every minute of working with my players and coaches so far and I can’t wait to lead them to the World Cup.
“This is an incredible opportunity and we will do our best to make the country proud.”
The FA said the new deal with Tuchel would provide “clear and comprehensive focus” on the World Cup.
Tuchel had previously been tipped as the permanent successor to sacked former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, despite the English giants experiencing an upturn in form under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.
But in signing a new contract with England, Tuchel appears to have ruled out a move to Old Trafford after the World Cup.
