The video above takes viewers to the waters off the Indonesian island of Bali, where a truly unusual marine animal slithers across the ocean floor. At first glance, it looks almost unreal—soft, translucent, and with delicate body protrusions that make it look more like floating jelly than a living mollusk.
But this strange creature is real. This is a type of sea slug known as a “sea slug” Green MeribeA species of nudibranch, a shellless marine gastropod known for its unusual shape and way of feeding. Divers and marine life enthusiasts are often fascinated by nudibranchs’ colors and strange shapes, but Green Meribe Even among them it stands out for its hunting methods.

The video was filmed near Bali by Emeric Benhalassa and later shared by Ocean Vizion. The animals shown in the clip have been identified in video reports as Green Meribeis a predatory nudibranch known for catching prey using a large expandable hood on the front of its body.
What’s so fascinating about this sea slug is that the large, flexible structure at the front of its body is more than just a mouth in the usual sense. It is an oral covering sometimes described as a net or veil. As the slug moves along the seafloor, it unfolds this shield and uses it to detect and capture tiny animals. When sensitive structures on the edge of the hood come into contact with prey, the hood quickly closes and captures the prey.
This species does not feed on plants but is carnivorous. It typically eats small crustaceans, including critters like shrimp and similar prey that live on or above the seafloor. This means that the opening and closing movements visible in the video are best understood as hunting behavior rather than simple herding.
It’s also worth clearing up a common misconception: Although sea slugs are often called sea slugs, not all sea slugs are sea slugs. In this case, though, the animal in the shot is both a sea slug and, more specifically, a nudibranch.

The frilled appendages that run along the body may look like “tentacle legs,” but they are not legs. They are part of the slug’s soft body structure and give it its unique, almost feathery appearance. most of the time, Green Meribe Crawls along the seafloor, but can also move in other ways when disturbed. The most striking action in this video is the expansion and closing of its feeding hood as it searches for prey.
For anyone who loves strange sea animals, this video is a reminder that some of the ocean’s most amazing hunters aren’t the biggest or fastest. Sometimes they are soft-bodied and slow-moving, almost ghost-like, but they are perfectly adapted to life at the bottom of the sea.
