‘The shower only has one towel’

  • Elon Musk’s mother said that Elon Musk’s living conditions are very simple and he only uses a towel when taking a bath.

  • “There’s no food in the refrigerator,” Meyer Musk added in Tuesday’s post.

  • She has previously said she slept in his garage when visiting him but she didn’t mind.

Elon Musk is one of those people who only has a towel, according to his mother.

In an X post on Tuesday, Maye Musk described her son’s living space in Boca Chica, South Texas, near SpaceX’s Starbase launch site.

“There’s no food in the refrigerator,” said the billionaire’s 77-year-old mother. “The garage where I sleep is on the right.”

She added, “There was only one towel in the shower, so I left it with Elon. I thought it was okay.”

Meyer Musk wrote that she had been prepared for this life since she was a child, spending weeks in the Kalahari Desert because there was no water or bathing.

“I think my parents prepared me for this luxury,” she said, adding a laughing emoji at the end of her X post.

Musk said in a 2022 podcast interview that his Boca Chica home is a 3-bedroom home worth $45,000.

This isn’t the first time Meyer Musk has revealed his son’s living conditions.

In 2023, she responded to a tweet from Musk in which he said he slept on a friend’s couch the previous weekend. When she visited him in Texas, she said, she had “a lot of memories of sleeping on a mattress or a blanket on the floor, on a couch or on a garage bed.”

In that tweet, she said it was “still better than being on the ground in the Kalahari Desert with lions or hyenas nearby.”

Musk has made headlines many times for his simple and humble lifestyle. The CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and X Inc., currently worth an estimated $664 billion and the world’s richest man, is known for sleeping on the floor in his office and going to bed at 3 a.m.

“Back to working 24/7 and sleeping in conference rooms/servers/factory rooms,” he said in a post in May after resigning from the Department of Government Effectiveness to focus on his company.

Although Musk keeps a small inventory of towels, he has previously said that the habit that has had the biggest impact on his life is taking a shower.

Representatives for Musk did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
