SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers will face the division rival Los Angeles Rams in the first NFL regular-season game in Australia next season, the league said Thursday.
The league announced last year that it would stage a match in 2026 at Melbourne’s MCG, which has a capacity of around 100,000 spectators. The Rams were also announced as the home team for the game last year as part of a multi-year commitment to playing in Melbourne.

The NFL will play a record nine international games next season, including the league’s first games in Paris and Rio de Janeiro.
Charlotte Offford, general manager of NFL Australia and New Zealand, said: “The 49ers are a popular team in the Australian market and this competitive game solidifies what we know will deliver an incredible NFL experience for our fans.”
Dates and kick-off times will be announced at a later date.
The Rams have marketing rights in Australia since the NFL begins its international marketing program in 2022. ___
