That makes the quarterback depth chart behind Manning tough in Austin and looking like it’s going to get lighter.
According to On3 , Trey Owens is expected to enter the transfer portal.
Owens has been with the Longhorns for two seasons.
He was originally a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024 from Cy-Fair (Texas) and ranked as the No. 20 quarterback nationally in that class.
In high school, Owens was selected to the All-American team.
He threw for 6,411 yards and 81 touchdowns at Cy-Fair, completing 70 percent of his passes.

Owens played two games for Texas in the 2024 season, catching two passes for 19 yards.

In 2025, he didn’t play at all.
Manning has yet to make a decision. Before this season, he was viewed as a top-10 NFL Draft prospect, but inconsistencies led many to believe Manning would first spend another year in college.
If Manning still goes to the NFL, the Longhorns may find themselves in real need of a new quarterback, as losing Manning and Owens will leave the cupboard empty.
But if Manning comes back, Texas will be fine.
Owens, who has a strong pedigree, also has a good chance to step up.
