Texas A&M’s secondary will welcome Colorado State stud Tawfiq Byard, a safety transfer to the 2026 secondary. On paper, the Aggies’ safety rotation looks very good now that Bryce Anderson has entered the transfer portal. With the run defense needing to drastically improve, Byard’s shooting ability and ability as a hybrid linebacker will be key to bolstering the defense’s run-stopping ability.
At cornerback, the return of incoming junior Dezz Ricks is also big news, as the former five-star recruit is coming off his best season and will join senior cornerback Will Lee III, who will enter the 2026 NFL Draft, as a veteran.

Ricks enters the offseason as the clear No. 1 cornerback, with the second and third options yet to be determined. However, on Tuesday night, news broke that junior guard Julio Humphrey had re-signed with the Aggies and will return in 2026. This is big news for the future rotation as he already knows what Humphrey brings to the table and his elite speed is worth noting.
With experienced players in front of him, Humphrey performed well in five games, recording seven tackles and a pass deflection. The 6-foot-1, nearly 200-pound Humphrey, whose starting experience at Georgia and Texas A&M bodes well for his final season with the Aggies, will compete with Jordan Shaw or a transfer addition for the other outside corner job.
