Tear Gas Has Been ‘Completely Ineffective’ Against Protesters — Only Causing ‘More Turmoil’ in Chaotic Minneapolis Streets

fox news reporter Steve Harrigan As the situation in Minneapolis spirals out of control after another protester was shot and killed by immigration officers on Saturday, Harrigan reported that the tear gas used by federal officers was “totally ineffective” and only led to “more unrest.”

Wearing a black gas mask, Harrigan reported live from the chaotic streets of Minneapolis on Saturday afternoon. host Aisha Hasni Tell Harrigan that the measures ICE and Border Patrol agents are using to stop protesters don’t seem to be working.

“None of this works,” Hasni said. “So far, we haven’t seen these people leave. They keep coming back — after tear gas was used on them, Steve. It’s not stopping at all.”

Harrigan tells her she’s right.

“It’s not valid,” Harrigan told her. “The methods they used were completely ineffective. All it caused was more disorder in the streets. They didn’t have the numbers or the power to get it done. They took a block and then lost that block.”

He added, “This is the third time we’ve seen tear gas and they’re not winning this battle.”

His report came as protesters continued to clash with agents after a man was shot and killed by Border Patrol earlier in the day. The Department of Homeland Security said the man “approached” the agents with a 9 mm handgun.

The Department of Homeland Security added:

Police attempted to disarm the suspect, but the armed suspect vigorously resisted. More details about the armed struggle will be released soon. Fearing for his life and safety and that of other officers, one agent fired his weapon in defense. Medical staff at the scene immediately provided medical assistance to the injured, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was also in possession of two magazines but no identification – it looked like a situation where someone wanted to cause maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.

minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara Later he told reporters that the man was a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and a “legal gun owner.”
