TCU OC Kendal Briles departs before Alamo Bowl matchup with USC

Later this month, USC will conclude the 2025 football season and the Trojans will travel to San Antonio to play in the Alamo Bowl. There, they will face a TCU team that finished the season with an 8-4 record in the Big 12 Conference.

However, in a notable development earlier this week, the Horned Frogs lost offensive coordinator Kendall Briles. Briles left TCU for the OC job at South Carolina.

With Briles gone, he won’t be calling the Horned Frogs’ game against Troy. As of this week, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes has not announced who will call the shots in the game.

“We’re working hard to fix this,” Dykes said. “The college football world is always making contingency plans. So I think there’s always going to be a Plan A, a Plan B, a Plan C, etc. along the way. I don’t know what we’re going to do yet. We’ll give you the answer when it happens.”

Briles served as TCU’s offensive coordinator the past three seasons. Prior to his arrival, the position was actually held by Garrett Riley, the younger brother of USC head coach Lincoln Riley. In 2022, the younger Riley won the Broyles Award with the Horned Frogs, which is given annually to the top assistant coach in college football. In 2023, he left Clemson to serve as offensive coordinator before Briles was hired by TCU.
